My music icon… also a blogger

I was surprised to read today’s edition of Philippine Star and saw the title of Mr. Jim Paredes’ column “Why I blog.” I can understand that he has a weekly column in the newspaper since he is such a good writer and has deep insights on current issues. These he usually express through his songs.
Having caught by the title of the column, I immediately read the whole content. I saw the URL of his blog which I immediately bookmarked. His blog entitled Writing on Air (My musings and random thoughts) contains, well… his musings and random thoughts, an online edition of his weekly column, his deep insights on current issues, as well schedules of his seminars - Tapping the Creative Universe or TCU (I hope I could blog more on this sometime).
Mr. Paredes is one the member of the APO troika. I have grown up with the music of Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society or the APO Hiking Society or just plain APO. But I began to appreciate their music more when I began to learn to play the guitar. I have most of their latest album! From Mga Kwento ng APO, Songbuk ng APO, Barangay APO & The 1, 2, 3 album. I enjoyed playing their songs on my guitar. And when I started writing songs, Mr. Jim Paredes is one my greatest influence. What with great lyrics like Alipin ng Mundo, Piece of the Peace and the very poetic Tuyo ng Damdamin… who can come only from a great songwriter.
Now that I found out that he is also a blogger, I admire him even more. And somehow, I feel that I can connect with him now. Being a blogger myself, I think that now I can reach out to him without looking like a starstruck fanatics. And maybe I could get an advice on writing songs and how to have them recorded (lol).
Seriously now, I do hope that I can communicate with him. It is one of my fondest dream to meet him in person, together with Mr. Danny Javier and Buboy Garovillo. And let them know how their music influenced my adolescent years, especially my desire to express myself through songs. And through Mr. Paredes’ blog, I hope it is not a remote possibility.
