July 18, 2008 Earthquake… truth or just another hoax?

The e-mail delivers a message of warning and horror, so to speak, as it tells of an earthquake of big magnitude to happen in the Philippines soon. I searched for the e-mail copy in my inbox, unfortunately I can’t find. I may have deleted it already since I always believe that such messages were a waste of time.
But yesterday, when my daughter arrived from school she told they had an earthquake drill. They were told that there was a prediction about the earthquake that would happen in the Philippines. I was surprised because, somebody is taking the prediction seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that they are preparing for such an event, but to instil fear in the minds of children is a different. My daughter told me that one of their classmates even cried in fear during the exercise.
If I remember right, said earthquake will happen on July 18, 2008 with a magnitude of 8.1 as the e-mail said, if I’m not mistaken. While admittedly, it gives me the creeps, I can’t help but be skeptic about it. Can an earthquake be predicted?
The said prediction was said to be made by a certain JUSELEENO NOBULEGA DaROOSE (or Jucelino Nobrega da Luz), a Brazilian teacher. And his prediction has been spreading through e-mails and text messages (what with the unlimited texting facility available). Other predictions were also made by this person, but I wouldn’t bother searching for them.
Philvocs on their part already gave out a statement that the rumours isn’t true. There will be no earthquake on July 18. Or just to simply say, earthquake cannot be predicted. That’s science speaking for you.
Yes indeed! I believe we should always be prepared. Not because there was a scare. But because… we should always be prepared. (period)
Do we really need to have a feeling that it’s the end of the world before we begin to amend our ways?

Yes, I agree , earthquake or not, we should always be prepared. Thanks for that informative post Roy.
All the best.
Thanks for dropping by!
Well, PHILVOLCS gave their statement on television that you cannot or never predict earthquakes, but they themselves were not sure about science, you can actually sense it through their voice, doubtful din sila, takot din sila baka magkatotoo yung lindol, minsan kasi ang tao ay nagdidilang anghel din, pero sana huwag ito maging totoo, di ko pa nga nararanasan ang tunay na gloria, mamamatay na agad ako, that’s unfair. Bakit di nalang sa Iraq, maraming masasamang tao dun. Mga Muslim walang modo, mga utak nasa pwet totoo naman diba (sarcasm)
Do you really believe in this crap???? are you grade school students still live in a fabtasy dream??? wake up! its a hoax! No HUMAN BEING can predict when and where an earthquake will strike! and being specific with a date? July 18, 2008 with a 8. something magnitude come on GUYS and GALS DON’T BELIEVE IN THIS CRAP! I’ll repeat NO HUMAN BEING CAN PREDICT EARTHQUAKE WHEN WHERE AND HOW! stop this foolishness!!!!!
