Popularity, not talent… isn’t there a better option?

My favorite actually was Ram, in spite of the presence of the Kabalen in Jayann. But as most probably know, he was eliminated early in the proceedings of the program. Which leaves Gretchen and Jayann competing for the coveted title, and the mark of being the ‘first ever’ Pinoy Idol.
Obviously, I’m writing this blog as the program progresses and hoping to finish it once the final winner is already announced. While I can only root now for a Kabalen, it really doesn’t matter to me who wins at this point. While this ‘text votes’ thing makes the competition more interesting, it definitely defeats the purpose of a talent show.
No offense against the two girls competing for the finals. They wouldn’t have passed the audition if the judges didn’t see their talent in the first place. But if viewers were listening to the judges’ comments every week, perhaps they could be voting more wisely. Because they (judges) know talents more.
At this point, the contest winner has been announced, and the very first ever Pinoy Idol is…. Gretchen. And I am not surprised.
Everything is decided after all by text votes.
To Gretchen and her family, friends and all her supporters…. Congratulations!
To future aspirants, this early I guess you should start your campaign. Inform all your relatives, be friendly… heck! create a friendster, myspace, multiply or any online social networking for you to reach more people faster. Remember, more than the talent, your popularity has a great impact in your campaign.
And be sure to choose friends who are not too lazy nor too cheap to spend P2.50 on text vote.
In the meantime, the Pinoy Idol book temporarily closes.
While eyes are now on all the former hopefuls, most specially the champion… who will be able to leverage on this exposure and create a bigger name in the music industry?
Let’s just wait and see…

im happy gretchen won. she deserves it.
but the real battle would be now that the contest has ended. who will be the most marketable, not just among them three, but the other idol hopefuls as well.
eh popularity lang talaga yung naging laban. o dinaan na lang sa pera. imagine yung tatay ni gretchen eh governor. eh di andaming pera nun.
@ iva
Congratulations to you too then
@ kenneth
the girl can sing, we can’t take that from her…
but yes, that factor is a great advantage on her part, ‘tho not entirely her fault
like I said, the coming developments will be the real test.
thanks for dropping by guys!
I should have voted for Jayann the kabalen, pero ala kong text..he he he…
There’s always a reason for things to happen. What counts will be as Iva said , the marketability. There is life after not being champion.
Hurray for our kabalen for being second.
and Happy blogging to you.
Hi Jena!
Thanks for dropping by!
I’m looking forward to what will happen next
sayang lang time nung mga talagang sumubaybay! well, ok lang we know hus the real winner! pera pera lang naging labanan… haha!
for me si ram din at si jayann. Mayaman na si gretch, ipaubaya nalang sana sa iba dba……singko lang ang tingin ni gretch sa napanalunan nya eh……………..but now end na ang contest, sana dumami din talaga ang bumili ng mga tickets for gretch sa mga upcoming career and concerts nya. Abangan ko si Ram, may patutunguhan talaga.
