Hillary Clinton’s pledge of support for Barack Obama drew a lot of reactions from people around the globe, not only to the American populace. Her call for unity among Democrats to rally behind Obama’s bid for presidency finally shelved her own presidential bid for good. Such is an unselfish act. Although not really an American, nor am I in the land of the free, I can’t help but contemplate on these developments and imagine it happening in the Philippine soil.
For one, it is really a remote possibility. The country being under a multi-party list system,
where party loyalty is second only to political ambition, Clinton’s action is not likely to happen. A presidentiable in her caliber and status is not bound to throw in the towel just like that and pledge support. If she were in the Philippines, she might break-away from her party and create her own political party and continue her drive towards the presidency with such a strong momentum… and perhaps eventually win.
Second, if it should happen (throw of support), the intentions will be met with questions, raised eyebrows and doubts. Because like I said, it is really a rare occasion in a country whose cry has always been unity amidst diversity. The least that it could be thought of is that it’s a sell-out.
Fortunately, she is in the land of the free, where such action will be met with appreciation and support. Her act is really a big boost for Obama’s campaign, strengthening further his already strong and monumental drive.
