PhotobucketTomorrow, September 20, 2008 is the day another APO concert will be held. A concert to celebrate their 39 years of making music together as a group. Yet again, it will be another APO concert that I won’t watch. Don’t get me wrong, I am an APO fan, they have been one of my greatest musical influence. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to watch them tomorrow nor have watched any of their concerts before. I haven’t watched any of their concert because of location, financial, and situation. I live far from the concert place, I can’t pay for the concert, and I won’t leave my kids alone at home just to watch a concert.

Deep inside me, I would love to watch the concert. But more than watching the concert, there’s nothing I really wish more than meeting them personally. No, I’m not just referring to shaking hands and taking my pictures with them, but really meeting them - being introduced, talking to them, changing pleasantries and perhaps ask them what they think about my songs (yes, I also write songs) Wishful thinking I know.

The closest I got to them was when Mr. Jim Paredes visited this blog and commented on my blog post My music icon… also a blogger And I don’t know if they will still remember it, when they were just starting their Sunday show in Channel 2 ‘Sa Linggo nAPO Sila!‘, I wrote a poem for them in Tagalog and sent it through snail mail. To my surprise, they received the poem and even read it on the show! After which, it was back to being anonymous.

APO or Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society is composed of Jim Paredes, Danny Javier and Boboy Garovillo. But they really needed no introduction. I grew up with their music and began to love their songs more when I learned playing the guitar. And now, I’m very happy that I share this love for APO songs with my kids who love the original APO versions better than the revival versions of today’s bands which introduced APO songs to them in the first place.

Tomorrow, their concert will be held at the Araneta Coliseum to celebrate their 39 years of making music together. It will be a funfilled concert I’m sure, and one that will be well attended… an attendance that will not include this blogger.

P.S. Jim Paredes has a blog he called Writing On Air which contains his musings and random thoughts. And one particular entry that caught my curiousness whas Jim Paredes’ posting in his blog of Joey de Leon’s article APO, Ang Dakilang LUMPO (Lumang Grupo) an article tracing back APO and TVJ’s history together. It’s interesting, be sure to check it out.
