Friends of the The Struggling Blogger who supported me in the Free Domain Hosting Contest... thank you very much to all of you!

It was over, before I was even had time to promote my last blog post. A history was made as Barack Obama became the first black president of the United States of America. This victory only proves that America is the land of the free and equal opportunity. And hopefully, this will eventually lead to the crushing of the invisible wall that separates the colors in that country.

Although early on in the campaign, Obama was already the more favored candidate. The role of an underdog did not work well for John McCain, and not his running mate Palin was able to save his cause. America has spoken, Obama won and McCain, accepting his fate, already called his rival and conceded.

Now, America and rest of the world can move on.

Do you really expect me to end that? Of course I won’t. In a country where no candidate really loses in any election, it really confuses me as to why vote counting and proclamation of winners takes a loooong time. And even if a winner has already been proclaimed, protests immediately follow. Like I said, nobody really losses in an election here.

Will computerizing the election process speed up the counting? For sure it will, but is that enough? Is that really all there is to it? Would a losing candidate… err, an unproclaimed winner accept the unfavorable result easily? I’m pretty sure, we will still be having the same familiar line-ups of candidates.

As long as we don’t learn our lessons from the past, and insist on genuine change, we will always have the same result. More than just a change in the electoral system, every Filipino must need a change within.

Change from within can only happen when a Filipino stops relying on a padrino system, corruption, power-tripping and political dynasty.

Unfortunately, let’s face it… Most of the ‘masang-Filipinos’ have short-term memories to significant political moments in our history. Have you ever wondered why are there numerous EDSA rallies? It’s because some Filipinos never learn to wonder how to change when given bribery or a nice position in our ‘corporate-like’ government system. :(

    Just thinking aloud here. ;)

Yes, the Americans has decided to have their 1st Afro-American president. It’s hard to judge now, so let’s just hope for the best.

But amazed me more besides the fast result, is the acceptance of McCain of his lost even if the results are not yet official. This makes him a true gentleman.

I think the problem here in our country, lahat gusto maging bida. Come to think of it, why not unite and make only 2 parties so the people can easily decide?

The question is simple - yes, or no? Well, I still hope for the best to all.

    Thanks!

Thank you very much for dropping by Angel.

Yes, if only we can go back to the 2-party system like we used to have maybe we can have a more peaceful electoral process here… and perhaps a stronger country.
