Google is building a server farm in Austria. A 75 hectares of land was purchased in Kronstorf, Austria to build their farm. It wasn’t a quick decision, or so I heard. As Google spokesperson Kay Oberbeck said, they have to look at a dozen sites in other European countries before choosing Austria.
They needed a site where there’s enough power supply to keep the numerous computer units running and a continuous supply of water to keep their computers cool.
What’s a server farm? No, I don’t think they breed virus here, definitely it’s not that kind of farm. From what I gathered (this kind of subjects forces me to research just to have decent post), their server farm will be used to handle and process all data request from internet users all over the world. Got that? All over the world. How many could that be?
This project is said to cost Google millions of Euros in investment! Wow!
I hope they also build a server farm here, that will be a big boost to our economy and employment problem, as they would be needing up to 100 employees, initially.
We do have lots of idle farmlands don’t we? Oh, that’s not the same thing. Oh well…

Marami actually data centers ang Google spread all over the world… yun una kong nabasa is way back 2006… two computing centers, each the size of a football field…
Since then Google definitely grew more load (Gmail, Blogger, Google Maps, Google Apps, etc…) Such facilities of Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo are somewhat kept under the radar, techies can only guess how many…
http://www.ajaxgirl.com/2008/04/11/where-are-all-the-google-data-centers/
There are 36 data centers in all—19 in the U.S., 12 in Europe, 3 in Asia, and one each in Russia and South America. Future data center sites may include Taiwan, Malaysia, Lithuania, and Blythewood, South Carolina, where Google has reportedly bought 466 acres of land.
Iba talaga if you have tons of money at your disposal… they even have a patent for a Water-based Data Center as they’re into renewable energy sources…
hanep! i have to give it to you pinoynetworker!
