“Would you like to be called fillies?”

I was just conscious of the music being played. It was my son who actually turned on the radio, and didn’t turn it off when they left for school.
As I was saying, the radio keeps on playing. However, unmindful as I was to the DJ, my attention was caught by a certain word that the DJ said - ‘Fillies‘, Fillies? What in the world is he talking about?! Then, he repeated the word. I was not hearing things, he did say fillies!
And you know what is he referring to with that word? You wouldn’t believe it.
Filiies is that DJ’s shortened term for Filipinos! Is that correct? Does he have the right to coin such a word and throw at all Filipinos listening at his program?
I don’t know how he spells his ‘Fillies’, but I’ve searched the online dictionary for various fillies spellings… fillies, filly’s, phillies, philis, filis… and other combination you can think of. And I’ve found two words with their meaning.
filly - which refer to a young female horse, too young to be called a mare. Its plural form is fillies, and;
Phillies - which refer to the Major League Baseball team in Philadelphia.
Both words has nothing to do with being a Filipino, nor any characteristic that pertains to our race.
So, do you want to be referred to as a young female horse, or a baseball player from Philadelphia?
I know the DJ might just want to sound smart, cute or cool. I just wished he searched for the meaning of the word he is using before throwing them away at people. He is insulting people right on the air, and he is even proud of it.
Should he be forgiven? For his being irresponsible, definitely NO! He must be conscious in his influence, especially on the young people listening to his program.
I have nothing personal against this DJ, I’m not a regular listener on radio lately. If I hadn’t been caught by that term that he used, there won’t be any problem.
I don’t know if it’s only that particular DJ who is using that term, or it’s a station-wide ‘linggo‘ being used GV FM. Yes, that’s the word - ‘pauso.’
I hope they become aware of the boo-boo that they are doing on the air.

Phillies, the world champion hahaha! I’m am a native Philadelphian. Ok. Transplanted. I call myself, PHILLY-FINO. hahaha! That DJ is abno who have no clue how to call Pinoys.
World Champ pala, that’s nice.
no, i really don’t think he’s that kind of person. i guess it was that ’spur-of-the-moment-the-first-thing-that-enters-my-mind’ thing.
problem is, he seemed to like it and repeated it. i really don’t know if he still using it.
Well, perhaps it is okay for the listeners to call the DJ’s attention, probably call the station and let him know how his listeners feel about him using the word “Fillies” for FIlipinos. Siguro po hindi na niya ‘yun uulitin
I would be rather called Filipino than ‘fillies’. But if he means it in a good way, why not?
