Ecclesias Tickles
Posted by: Roy in blog, icon, links, thought & opinions, tags: articles, August 2003, humor, jokes, old copy, RD, RD.com, subscriptionI stumbled upon my old copy of Reader’s Digest. I used to subscribe to RD when I was still employed, I think it is the best reading magazine anyone can find. Like they say, ‘if you’re going to subscribe to one magazine in your life, then Reader’s Digest should be it!”
Today, I still believe that. Unfortunately, I’m no longer subscribed (because I’m no longer employed).
Anyway, like I was saying, I found my August 2003 issue of Reader’s Digest. Before I read anything else in RD like featured stories, Life’s like that, and even Laughter… the best medicine, I scan through the pages and look for those short ‘fillers’ after ever article, and this is one of them… and I’d like to share it here…
ECCLESIAS TICKLES
My church’s activities committee was discussing potential events for the year. One member suggested a variation on a beauty pageant. The twist would be that the pageant would celebrate more virtuous qualities than physical attractiveness.
Another member protested, “No one would enter such a contest!”
“Why not?” asked the committe chairman.
“Who would want to be named Miss Giving or Miss Understanding or Miss Demeanour?”

At a wedding I recently attended, the priest called for a moment of silence for the congregation to remember the faithful dead.
As the church grew quiet, a little boy sitting in front of me turned to his father and said excitedly, “Dad, you have some their albums!”

The names after each short articles were the ones who have sent them to RD, I decided to include them to give credit where it’s due.
Hope you like them.
