Last June 12, we celebrated our Independence Day. Our 111th year of being free, and we owe that to all our heroes of the past.

But do you know that we also have our heroes of today? Unsung and unnoticed… heroes we should be proud of.

We should be proud of our heroes
Heroes who are willing to stay up late at night, while we are asleep, making sure that the effort to pass the law that will change our country’s constitution would go uncontested

We should be proud of our heroes
Heroes who are willing to sacrifice their own family – their wife, their sons and daughters, and even their siblings, to take hold of their position for them while they take a break from three continuous terms. So they can be sure it’s still waiting for them when they come back, ensuring you of the continuous delivery of their brand of public service.

We should be proud of our heroes
Heroes who will see to it that every member of the family will have a position, from the barangay level, to the highest seat possible, ensuring the smooth transition and passage of laws and services, so that all we need to worry about is paying our taxes.

We should be proud of our heroes
Heroes who won’t hesitate to start an advocacy, funding it even, doing everything to drive that advocacy into the mainstream, until it gets popular. And they won’t stop until they get that much sought after recognition by getting a seat in the congress.

We should be proud of our heroes
Heroes who are willing to break away from their political party and without any second thought will form a new one. Because they believe in their own advocacy, and that their former party wasn’t living that advocacy – a truth that they only realized when the former party has chosen a different standard bearer.

We should be proud of our heroes
Heroes who are willing to throw away decency, and even self-respect out of the window, and are willing to occupy a much lower position in the government, even after serving the highest position in the country.

We should be proud of our heroes… aren’t we the luckiest country?

    Cabalen!

Yep, we are the luckiest country in the world! With these kind of heroes, the survival of our future generation will be a steady drive. NOT!!!

We celebrated Independence Day and yet the question is still back there. Are we really free? Or this is just a play? How I wish that somebody or something will make these heroes remember what they did. But will they?

he he he, you’re full of surprises Roy, another twist again., Okay, I’m proud of our heroes. The true heroes, I mean. Enterprising post.

We’re free as a nation. We’re free to drive ourselves to perdition. We’re free to elect fools, charlatans, criminals, pirates, thieves into office.

We’re free to denounce patronage politics and at the same breath partake of its spoils.

We’re to sell our souls to these nincompoops and yet we wonder why we’re knee-deep in shit.

Long live our present day heroes. Lord, kunin mo na sila please!

We’re free to think we need heroes to straighten the mess these politicians make on our behalf. These days if we manage to be decent and upright citizens we are heralded as heroes. We are only playing out our supposed roles in life to be decent and to be the best that we can ever hope to be.

Tama nga ang kasabihan, kawawang bayan ang nangangailangan ng mga bayani para tumino at umunlad.

hi! thanks for dropping by. yes, I agree. we are not really totally ‘free’

    @Kelvin
kudos to your father (and all OFWs)

    @Jan
Yes, I’ve heard that before, and sadly it’s true… to depend on a hero, para lang tumino :(

hi roy, happy independence day. i agree with you, sa dinami dami ng mga corrupt na mga officials ng ating bansa, i guess we should focus on those people pa rin who are true and honest in serving our country.

by the way, we should also be thankful sa mga heroes ng filipino families. yung mga tatay at nanay na mayroong pang malasakit sa bansa na nagsisilbing model sa mga anak..

hanggat may mga magulang na di nagsasawang magturo sa anak na mahalin ang bansa nila, hindi mawawalan ng pag-asa ang pilipinas..i believe isa ka sa mga tatay na yun…keep it up!!

happy father’s day na din..God bless!

  12. melody says:

i guess we should not lose hope…we only have country and i believe it is worth fighting for..

  13. Roy says:

    Hi Melody!

    Thanks for dropping by!

Sana nga, magkaroon pa tayo ng pag-asa.
