Why I don’t always follow - a followfriday post
Posted by: Roy in Announcement, internet, links, sources, thought & opinions, tags: #followfriday, follow, tweeps, tweets, twitterTwitter is a great place to be. It is great venue to meet online friends, get updated on latest posts, events and what-have-you. It is in fact where the jedi council of bloggers first convened, a small group that continues to grow as we tweet.
It is common in twitter that once somebody followed you, you follow them back - most of the time at least. But unlike most tweeps, I don’t always follow back and I have a good reason for doing so. No, being snobbish is not one of them, but if it makes you happy suit yourself, add it on the list.
But honestly, as of now, I have all the tweets that I need. I wouldn’t want to have so many tweets really filing in my inbox because I might miss the precious tweets of my friends. That’s why I’m trying to keep them at the minimum.
If I have too much on my inbox, I might not see where @Jan_Geronimo has been and get to know what he has discovered through his tweets.
I wouldn’t know that @Zorlone has a new poem about his rare bus experience (funny, he didn’t sleep in the bus?)
I would have missed PinoySoundingBoard being up already if @elmot’s tweet was lost in a sea of tweets.
I’m no tennis fan, but because of @ceblogger, I get my regular dose of sports updates.
And I’m always on lookout on what would be @JenaIsle’s challenging word for the day, which @dragonblogger, who doesn’t seem to be challenged at all, gladly accept and use it for his daily random word poem.
And I wouldn’t know that @pmonchet has an inspiring story posted at Gewgawwritings if my inbox was full!
I haven’t watched it yet (to be honest), but I sure would be looking forward to @ryjr’s next performance once I have the time.
And because I only have a few ‘followed’ people, I was able to catch @mizdi’s beautiful picture of tulips!
I also happened to catch @HollyJahangiri’s 4th of July breakfast post, which I might not be able to do if I have my inbox full.
Of course, it is also nice to follow @bingkaycoy’s love-hate relationship in her second home
And thanks to @ditesco, @LadyProgrammer and @theweblogzone, my fear of the ‘techie world’ is slowly subsiding.
I also don’t want to miss the rare tweets of @buraot, and am also glad to that @pinoyambisyoso is being active in twitter again.
Let us not leave the mommy twitters as well, @babyfuzz, @trendydee, @iagosmom, @amorfrancis, @badudets, @pehpot
And just because they don’t see me lately, it doesn’t mean I won’t mention them new twitter-buddies who are getting active too - @yatotchronicles, @jedchan, @ihearttibby and @earthlingergous
This is a special mention - @robangeles, a true-blooded Cabalen which I found because I was able to see Jan’s tweet
Saving the best for the last… no jedi blogger would want to miss a tweet announcing a new post on @dezertsnow’s blog.
They are not the only people I follow, but they are mostly the ones in my inbox
Yes of course, I’m going to follow other tweeps soon

This is a followfriday in itself. I am going to make sure that each and every one of the names you mentioned are listed in my “following” list. hmmm… some of them are my friends at plurk. Earthlingorgeous, ladyprogrammer (add me as your friend), badudets, and buraot. hehehe.
Very creative post Roy and thank you for the mention!

“Saving the best for the last…”
Now that is awesome. Thanks, Roy. Nothing could be better than best.
But just in case you are interested, you can filter tweets if you use Twitter clients like Twhirl or TweetDeck. In TD, for instance, you can set up a group called buddies and select your friends. A window will then appear which will only contain tweets from your selected buddies. That way, you can reciprocate any follow by your followers while keeping in touch with your VIPs. In Twhirl, the process is a bit more involved—but just a bit. It’s a one time deal. See you in Twitterverse.
Thanks for the mention Kuya Roy. I’m just new to Twitter and its kinda addicting din pala haha.
When I started in Twitter, I was the same. I remember that I was only following 150 Tweeps. I was having fun. Then a Sith Lord seduced me to follow him in the dark side. Fortunately, I have Seesmic Desktop and created groups to filter the noise and to allow me to monitor conversations from good buddies.
The only type of message I receive now at DM or direct messages and store them in a different folder where I can easily delete them. I guess taking note of reciprocity in Twitter depends on what goals you have in social media.
@Z
saw your comment last night (or was it 1am this morning?) but I was too sleepy to reply after approving it. thanks for coming here so fast
@Luke
I believe you have a lot to do with the jedi council being formed. you deserved all the honor we can give
@Amor
oo nga, nakikita ko nga, nadadalas ka na hehe…
@Rob
yes, Jan has been telling about tweetdeck then, I was just being stubborn hehe…
Clever post Kuya Roy, now i know how to tweet these guys! ^_^
kaya dapat dalas-dalasan mo ang pagtu-tweet Snow
I thought you had writer’s block. Eto naka-create ka na naman ng post just by writing about your twitter friends. I have also been not so active before in tweeter, but now that there are lots of friends there, it’s a new living room for all of us. Just like spending some time with friends after a hard-day’s work or just being a quidnunk for the sake of it.
Thanks for the inclusion and by the way the “tweet this post” button of Jan makes his posts easily tweetable, especially if I have only one hand available because the other one is busy. I just log in once, go to his blog and click, and click, and click. while I prepare for work or do some other thing.
I forgot to ask Jan about this application. Perhaps we could adapt this too in our blogs. It’s would then be easier for me to RT your posts ..(winks)…
Cheers.
oo nga e, kasi hindi pwede dito yun… I have no access to install plug-ins in this blog
yeah no, I dont get this whole twitter thing too. theres too many of them now, theres pluck or something too? LOL
uu nga, ngayon ko nalang din nalaman yung twitter,virgin pako dun.he he he.:)
Really good post, I always research when my followers recommend someone, and I only follow them if they have a topic or tweets that I find interesting or usable. As a word of advice, don’t follow people who have follow thousands but have very few followers in return.
@krisha
Hi! Thanks for dropping by!
Yes, there are too many of them, we have to spread ourselves thin to be able to utilize all of them lol
so far, it’s twitter for me right now

@Dragon Blogger
Thank you very much for dropping by my struggling blog Justin, and thanks for the advice.

I’m still learning my way in Twitter.

Alam mo gagayahin kita.
hahaha! naku! ano kaya ang gagayahin mo sa akin? sigurado ka ba diyan?
Sorry na naman sa typo. Baka akala ng mga foreign readers natin hindi tayo marunong ng grammarization..he he he:
That should be : “IT would then be easier for me to RT your posts ..(winks)…”
The keypads, you know….lol

@Jena

@Holly
I know I rarely visit your blog, but you know when I do
