I’m sorry… I failed

My plan was to bring the house down with witty punch lines and out-of-this-world one-liners… and if that won’t work, to bring you down to tears as I share my inspiring stories of struggles, hurdles and failures, until I saw the proverbial “light at the end of the tunnel.”
But that didn’t happen… a regular Seinfeld I wasn’t and neither was I the charismatic speaker who can flare up an audience with great dynamics in delivering a message. In fact, the exact opposite did happen!
I felt I was speaking in a monotonous voice, mumbling words which I myself couldn’t seem to comprehend, and I couldn’t decide whether I would deliver a punch line or I would stir emotions… of which, I couldn’t even tell the difference.
I have always dreamed of becoming a great speaker… one that inspires people with exacting choices of words delivered at the precise moment and with absolute authority… and a dream it seems, it will remain.
Maybe that is why I am a blogger… I am better read that heard… this is where I express myself best… and this is where I make a living…
…and the fact that you have reached this part reading I hope is proof enough of my claim.
I have emerged… a blogger with influence, as the title of the award says.
“No biggie” as what skeptics might say… indeed.
It is far, very far, from the Palanca award of literature… a fact that I couldn’t argue with.
But at this point, it’s the next best thing I can get my hands into… the Palanca award can wait… not that I’m aiming for it… at least not yet… for now.
I wanted this. I made that clear right at the start, a statement that I wrote without any hint of inhibition or hypocrisy… because I really, really wanted this.
More than the prestige that this award brings, more than the bragging rights than it carry with it… I wanted this as a form of self-affirmation that I am doing something right… and the feeling that my wife, at this very moment could be looking down from heaven… smiling and proud of what I have become.
I’ve found my calling… a calling that I wish to explore.
Will I remove the ‘struggling’ in my name? Definitely not!
Because struggles never end, and being recognized as an Emerging Influential Blog for 2009 is just a start of another struggle – to prove that I am what I was said I am.
I failed at the podium. I’m really sorry about that, but I promise to work on it.
In the meantime, I hope blog posts will do and that you will continue to visit me… read me… and join me in my struggles, as I try to deliver and share everything of what blogging has done for me… and we are just starting.
I am the struggling blogger… and I breathe blog.

He he he, Roy, not everyone can be a good speaker. Even the great Greek orators like Demosthenes had hours and hours of training (with a pebble in his mouth) before he could speak well in public.
No worries Roy, you’ll get used to it as you receive more and more awards. (winks) Once again, congratulations for being rank 3 in the recently concluded Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs 2009.

I always like reading your blog especially your touching letters for your wife. I don’t know how to explain it, but by just reading your letters, it makes me feel how life is important. That everyday is a great day to share your love to everyone and honestly say how much you love them.

True, as writers, we are better read than heard, but that comes with the territory and speaking is one of the most natural things we do. To be honest I am a bit disappointed with my speech. I couldn’t even pronouce “goo gah,” “goo-gew,” ah!!! Forget it! At least it everyone know how to spell it “G-E-W-G-A-W!”
See, yours was better than mine with the catchy phrase “copy paste” in the end of the speech!
