Playing with our constitution
Posted by: Roy in In the news, Personal, Reflections, reactions, thought & opinions, tags: 2010 election, confusion, fools, mockeryI can’t comprehend why these things are happening! We are being slap on the face!
First, a former president filed his candidacy to run for another term in next year’s election when the law clearly states that a president can only serve one term and won’t be allowed to seek re-election.
But by some tweaking and some twitching of the law, he was allowed to run… and our poll body accepted the candidacy!
I thought that was it, but NO!
Now, our incumbent president is seeking to run in next year’s election too and she can’t be accused of violating the constitution. Because while the law prohibits the president from seeking re-election, there’s nothing in it that says a president can’t run for a lower position!
This really baffles me.
Usually a person’s progression is always upward… starting from the bottom all the way to the summit. I really don’t understand why someone with a higher position would seek for a lower one - senators, congressmen, governors running as mayors, mayors and vice-mayors running as councilors… and now, a president running as congressman!
Because the law does not prohibit it!
This isn’t the first time our constitution is being given a slight-of-hand trick.
I’m sure we all know of at least one third-term mayor, congressman or governor who would commission his wife, son, daughter, or any relative to take hold of the position for a term, until he would be allowed by the law to run again after a one-term rest.
Is it any wonder political dynasties abound?
We are being played around… elections after elections after elections…
Could things get any worse?
