Tomorrow is another big day in Philippine sports. Because tomorrow is the much awaited fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
The Philippine pride and pound-for-pound king, Pacquiao will go up against his latest challenger, the Puerto Rican powerhouse Cotto.
To be honest, I don’t really watch boxing… at least not until the day I started blogging.
Never in my entire life have I paid attention to boxing. But since I started blogging I began to be conscious of not only boxing, but other things that are happening today – even things that don’t even concern me.
And with less than 24 hours before the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, I’d like to share my thoughts, not only on this particular fight, but on every fight that Pacquiao has.

It seems to be that there is really no stopping the “pound-for-pound” king star from rising. This time, Manny Pacquiao made the cover of Time Magazine’s Asian Edition. Pacquiao on Time Magazine will be featuring a five-page story on him in the latest issue which will hit the US and global newsstand this weekend.
With the simple dream only of providing a better life for his family through boxing, his humble beginning has elevated to such an international status that he now joins the ranks of boxing legends Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Sugar Ray Robinson and Mike Tyson who have graced the cover of the said magazine.

Here is an old article of Mr. Francis Kong from Philippine Star. This one’s special to me because after reading it then, I emailed Mr. Kong to ask his permission to post it on my blog. To my surprise, he replied positively!
Since then, I always email him whenever I see his weekly article on Philippine Star to ask permission, and always he would reply. That’s one great characteristic of Mr. Kong - he always reply to your emails, no matter how busy he seems to be.
Here is the said article, it’s about talking to yourself.

It’s always nice to hear good news about your former classmates in high school. It always brings a smile on one’s face to know that they are doing good and getting successes left and right.
I’ve heard a lot of my classmates who were doing good, whether here in the Philippines or in other country. But this one definitely tops them all. I have to check and re-read the article to be sure that it was my classmate shaking the hands of US President George W. Bush in picture.
And indeed, it was him!
His name is Giovanni Balingit, who is now an officer in the US Navy. I followed a link in Inquirer that reads “Filipino receives US ‘Spirit of Hope’ award” and I was surprised to see that it was him!

Here’s one proof that the Philippines is more than just a nation of servants, because our high school students have won in an international robotics competition! And read this - not only were they the sole Filipino team in the contest, they were the only representative from the Southeast Asia region.
Let me repeat that again - they were the only representative from the Southeast Asia region.
The Filipino team composed of high school students from Philippine Science High School (PSHS) - Diliman, have won and lorded it over their competition composed of six other high school teams from the US.
